A Tale of Two Men
There are two ways to look at, and value life by concentrating strictly on the outward man that the Bible calls the ‘Natural Man’ or by valuing the inner man or
the
‘Spiritual Man’. In the world we are conditioned right from birth to value all things external and all our labor is exercised towards making the body as
beautiful and as comfortable as possible with little or no thought given to enhancing the beauty of the inner man. We need to learn how to make the inner man
beautiful so we can see Christ in us, who alone has beauty that will last forever We can waste our lives looking at glass mirrors that reflect the image of a body
that perishes daily or we can spend our days looking at the mirror of the Word of God which alone can transform and renew us on the inside. The image that
we see in the mirror of The Word is not that of our bodies but of our Lord and Saviour, Jesus Christ. The more we look into this mirror the more we become like
Him and then we can see real beauty not only in ourselves but in our brothers and sisters in Christ. The more we see Christ in each other the more we become
lights in the world; we become beacons of hope and lighthouses that can guide others to a safe harbour. The image of Christ is the only beauty we should
behold for it is eternal as opposed to that of the outward man that is perishing daily.
The following table is a scriptural comparison between the outward
corrupt and corrupting man, and the inner spirit man that is being renewed daily into the image of the incorruptible Lord Jesus Christ.

OUTWARD (NATURAL) MAN
INWARD (SPIRITUAL) MAN
1 Samuel 16:7
But the LORD said unto Samuel, Look not on his countenance, or on the
height of his stature; because I have refused him: for the LORD seeth not as
man seeth; for man looketh on the outward appearance, but the LORD
looketh on the heart.
2 Corinthians 4:16
For which cause we faint not; but though our outward man perish, yet the
inward man is renewed day by day.
James 1:22
But be ye doers of the word, and not hearers only, deceiving your own selves.
23 For if any be a hearer of the word, and not a doer, he is like unto a man
beholding his natural face in a glass:  24 For he beholdeth himself, and goeth
his way, and straightway forgetteth what manner of man he was.
2 Corinthians 3:18
But we all, with open face beholding as in a glass the glory of the Lord, are
changed into the same image from glory to glory, even as by the Spirit of the
Lord.

Matthew 23:27
Woe unto you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! for ye are like unto whited
sepulchres, which indeed appear beautiful outward, but are within full of dead
men's bones, and of all uncleanness.
Ephesians 4:23
And be renewed in the spirit of your mind;
Matthew 23:28
Even so ye also outwardly appear righteous unto men, but within ye are full of
hypocrisy and iniquity.
Colossians 3:10
And have put on the new man, which is renewed in knowledge after the image
of him that created him:
Ecc: 3:11
He hath made every thing beautiful in his time: also he hath set the world in
their heart, so that no man can find out the work that God maketh from the
beginning to the end.
Titus: 1:15
Unto the pure all things are pure: but unto them that are defiled and
unbelieving is nothing pure; but even their mind and conscience is defiled.
1 Corinthians 2:14
But the natural man receiveth not the things of the Spirit of God: for they are
foolishness unto him: neither can he know them, because they are spiritually
discerned.
2Cor: 5:17
Therefore if any man be in Christ, he is a new creature: old things are passed
away; behold, all things are become new.

  Gal:6:15
For in Christ Jesus neither circumcision availeth any thing, nor
uncircumcision, but a new creature.
