Notes on Love and Death

Gen 1:3 Now the serpent was more subtil than any beast of the field which the LORD God had made.

Fact # 1: The serpent was made by the LORD God. The devil did not arise of his own volition and does not exist to serve his own purposes. Proverbs 16:4 The LORD
hath made all things for himself: yea, even the wicked for the day of evil.
The existence of evil in the world poses a great problem for people and so-called theologians
have tried desperately to incorrectly dissociate God from the origins of evil or to simply ignore the subject of good and evil.
Isaiah 45:7 I form the light, and create
darkness: I make peace, and create evil: I the LORD do all these things.
Scriptures such as Proverbs 16:4 and Isaiah 45:7 clearly tell us that evil was created by God; if
the serpent or the devil was created by the LORD God and the serpent is evil and the serpent is darkness then it is reasonable to conclude that the LORD God created evil
and darkness. The questions that then arise are:
1. If God created evil does it then mean that God himself is evil? 2. If God created evil but he himself is not evil
then why did he create evil?
The long answer to these questions is found in the articles on this website dealing with the subject of Conscience. The short answer that I
provide here is simply this: without evil it is not possible to understand good; without darkness it is not possible to understand light. God is good and God is light and in
order to teach his creation, man in particular what good means so that man could understand God; God created evil which is personified in the very real serpent or the devil
or Satan. God created his own opposite so that we could understand the character of God by understanding evil. We are surrounded by evil on all sides and wherever evil
is seen such as cruelty and rage and jealousy and envy and murder and backbiting and greed and above all death it reveals and brings to us the understanding that God is
none of these things; these evil characteristics are not those of God but rather those of his opposite the devil. By understanding that which God is not we come to
understand that which God really is; we understand the true nature of God, that he is kind and merciful and loving and gentle and forbearing and patient and forgiving, all of
which add up to the sum total of such characteristics and give us the ultimate definition of God, that
God is love!

Unless the love of God had been demonstrated and displayed for us to behold we would have never understood what love means nor would we have been capable of
loving God as strongly as he loves us. The bible has nuggets of wisdom hidden throughout that one must needs search for as one would for a treasure of gold and silver.
One of the most powerful scriptures in the entire bible is to be found in
The Song of Solomon 8:6 Set me as a seal upon thine heart, as a seal upon thine arm: for love
is strong as death;...
This scripture is the poetic equivalent of I Corinthians 13 and describes the power of love in a very poetic language. The final result of good (God) is
love and eternal life; the final destination of evil (Satan) is death. Love in the bible is compared to death and this comparison is a significant one. In order for us to
understand the full magnitude of God’s love there had to exist an equal and opposing force to that love and that force is death. Death is unmerciful, implacable and there is
no escape from it. Although death is trivialized by most ‘new age’ type religions there is nothing trivial about death; it is final but it is not non – existence. If it was mere non –
existence or a mere changing of form I would say ‘eat, drink and be merry’ for though you die tomorrow you will live to see another day. Only those who do not understand
the true value of life consider death to be trivial. In a manner of speaking death is a prison from which there is no escape, the bible tells us in
Psalm 22:29 “All they that be
fat upon earth shall eat and worship: all they that go down to the dust shall bow before him: and
none can keep alive his own soul. Countless books have been written
and more are written daily that claim to offer us the key to eternal life, the key to the fountain of youth, how to be always healthy, how to live to a 100 and so on and so forth
but if what is written in these books was actually true the first thing the authors would have done would have been to make themselves to healthy, wealthy and forever
young. I once saw a poster in a physiotherapy clinic that was titled ‘100 things to do to live to 100’: I asked the therapist how old did the author of this tract live to be; she
informed that he lived to be well over 80. I thought to myself how much stock should I put in someone’s claims to teach me how to live to 100 if he himself was unable to
make it to that landmark? The point is that if any person had the power to free himself from the clutches of death he would have done so and we would know his claims to
be true by the very fact that he would not die. So death is a prison from which it is impossible to escape and unless you plan your escape from it before you die it will be
much too late once you have actually split from this mortal coil.

The good news is that someone has conquered death and that person is Jesus Christ who is God in the flesh and who came for this very purpose: to conquer the
unconquerable enemy, death, and to offer us eternal life.
Hebrews 2:14 Forasmuch then as the children are partakers of flesh and blood, he also himself likewise took
part of the same
; that through death he might destroy him that had the power of death, that is, the devil;  15 And deliver them who through fear of death were all their
lifetime subject to bondage.
It is only love that could have conquered death: when Love and Death two equally powerful enemies clashed the one that came away
victorious was Love and Death was conquered and will be vanquished in the age to come.
1 Cor. 15:54 So when this corruptible shall have put on incorruption, and
this mortal shall have put on immortality, then shall be brought to pass the saying that is written, Death is swallowed up in victory.  55 O death, where is thy
sting? O grave, where is thy victory?
Had God not loved us as strongly as he does and as infinitely as he does, freedom from death could not have been possible! This
freedom cannot be purchased with gold and silver but rather is a free gift from God the creator of all things including man. So if the very breath we breathe is a gift from him
that he gives to us at no charge why should we not believe that he is able to also liberate us from the curse of mortality and lead us into immortality?
I Corinthians 1:51
Behold, I shew you a mystery; We shall not all sleep, but we shall all be changed,  52 In a moment, in the twinkling of an eye, at the last trump: for the trumpet shall sound,
and the dead shall be raised incorruptible, and we shall be changed. 53
For this corruptible must put on incorruption, and this mortal must put on immortality. I
Timothy 6:14 That thou keep this commandment without spot, unrebukable, until the appearing of our Lord Jesus Christ: 15 Which in his times he shall shew, who is the
blessed and only Potentate, the King of kings, and Lord of lords; 16
Who only hath immortality, dwelling in the light which no man can approach unto; whom no man hath
seen, nor can see: to whom be honour and power everlasting. Amen.

Dear readers this is the true power of love, not just mere man’s love but the burning, unquenchable love of Almighty God who loved us even before the creation of the
world. He loved us so much that he couldn’t bear the thought of us not understanding that love and in order to bring us that understanding he created the father of all evil,
Lucifer who would bring into existence the only enemy powerful enough to be a match for the love of God and that enemy is Death. He allowed us to become subject to
death and even though death results form man’s own evil, God’s love would not allow man to continue forever in the prison of death, a prison of unimaginable horror, of
utter hopelessness knowing that there is no escape from it. He himself became flesh and blood and subjected himself to mortality to bring immortality even to those who
deserved no such thing. God set an impossible challenge for himself, a challenge that could only be met by an infinite love. God put his own love to the test, not against a
minor enemy but the mightiest enemy that has ever existed in the universe and that enemy being Death! God in the flesh, Jesus Christ loved us more than words can
describe and to show us that love he himself became a mortal, clashed with Death on the cross and by dying for us conquered death on our behalf. He now offers eternal
life to all mankind, regardless of race, religion, color, caste or creed. All you have to do is BELIEVE! Believe that he is who he claims to be: not just another man or angel or
enlightened one or spiritual master or any such thing but rather that he is God the creator of all things and He who holds power over death itself. Life is precious and we
who have tasted life never want for it to end. I don’t want to live to be a 100 or a 1000 or a million, I want to live forever; I know that I do not have the power to keep myself
alive forever and therefore I must seek and find Him that is able to offer me eternal life. I have found Him or rather He has found me and His name is Jesus Christ.

John 3:16 For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life.

My prayer to my God and my Father and to my Lord Jesus Christ is that all who read these words will be drawn to investigate and to research these claims of the God-Man
Jesus Christ as recorded in the pages of the bible and having investigated will come to believe in Him who alone is able to offer them immortality. Amen.
