WHAT ABOUT CHRISTIAN ROCK MUSIC???
Rock music should be an oxymoron since Rock 'n' Roll by definition is an activity rather than music and therefore should not be defined as music. Having
sex which is what rock 'n' roll literally refers to has nothing to do with music. Rock 'n' roll was a term that was invented in the 50’s and initially referred to
music that was loud with rhythms and lyrics that were perceived to be sexual in nature; a charge that is not entirely untrue. Any music that promotes youthful
lusts can hardly be classified as Christian so technically speaking Christian rock would be a contradiction in terms. So that we don't end up splitting hairs
let's say that over time rock music has come to mean loud music with a non traditional rhythm that can excite intense emotions whether sexual or not. Back
in the 50’s this new ‘Elvis’ music was deemed to promote devilish feelings and so rock music came to be identified with the devil. The following scripture from
Ezekiel has also been frequently quoted to try and prove that the devil is the father of rock music.
Eze. 28:13: Thou hast been in Eden the garden of
God; every precious stone was thy covering, the sardius, topaz, and the diamond, the beryl, the onyx, and the jasper, the sapphire, the
emerald, and the carbuncle, and gold: the workmanship of thy tabrets and of thy pipes was prepared in thee in the day that thou wast
created.
Was the devil given a bad rap - pardon the pun? It has already been established that this new ‘rock’ music promoted rhythms and beats not to
mention lyrics that were sexually arousing and therefore its label was not entirely inaccurate. Nowadays rap and every other genre of rock music is not only
sexually arousing but can arouse many other intense feelings, even murderous ones and therefore it’s not unfair to classify a lot of it as satanic.

However is all loud music satanic or devilish? What should Christian music sound like? Let me first of all deal with Ezekiel 28:13 to prove that people who
condemn ‘Christian’ rock on the basis of this scripture do so erroneously. The anointed cherub of Ezekiel 28 is most commonly identified with Lucifer and by
extension with Satan. It is taught that Satan was originally a musician and therefore he must be the author of rock music. I have no doubt that all music
whether rock or not is satanically inspired if it does not honor God the creator. But is Satan the originator of music or was this a gift given to him by God?
The bible tells us that
‘the workmanship of thy tabrets and of thy pipes was prepared in thee in the day that thou wast created." Satan’s musical
abilities did not arise out of his own self but rather were given to him by God. Who is the one who prepared the tabrets and pipes in the cherub of Ezekiel 28:
13 - was it Lucifer or was it God? If music was a gift that God gave to Lucifer and Satan then the real author of music, even loud music is God not the devil.
The devil perverts that which he received from God in the beginning: so if rock music is a perversion then what is it a perversion of? Obviously it is a
perversion of Godly music, even loud Godly music with a rhythm and beat. So there must exist real loud and rhythmic music that honors and exalts God as
for example the loud music that was played on the day that David brought the Ark of the Covenant into Jerusalem.
2 Samuel 6:15: So David and all the
house of Israel brought up the ark of the LORD with shouting, and with the sound of the trumpet.

The bible does not have anything against loud music or with music that has a fast rhythm or beat. Probably the loudest music ever heard on Earth was in
the days of Moses when the trumpet blew on Mt. Sinai.
Exodus 19:16 And it came to pass on the third day in the morning, that there were
thunders and lightnings, and a thick cloud upon the mount, and the voice of the trumpet
exceeding loud; so that all the people that was in
the camp trembled. Psalm 33:3: Sing unto him a new song; play skilfully with a
loud noise. Psalm 98:4: Make a joyful noise unto the LORD, all
the earth: make a
loud noise, and rejoice, and sing praise. Psalm 150:5 Praise him upon the loud cymbals: praise him upon the high sounding
cymbals
. So just because the music is loud does not necessarily mean that it is devilish or satanic. Traditionally Jewish celebratory music has been very
upbeat, loud and with a fast tempo and this includes music that was played at many of their religious festivals.

It is also not true that the bible teaches that only hymns or psalms constitute Godly music!  In the Old Testament there are many instances of people singing
with joy and gusto to The Lord not singing just hymns and psalms as for example in
Exodus 15:20:  And Miriam the prophetess, the sister of Aaron,
took a timbrel in her hand; and all the women went out after her with timbrels and with dances. 21 And Miriam answered them, Sing ye to the
LORD, for he hath triumphed gloriously; the horse and his rider hath he thrown into the sea.
In the New Testament the apostle Paul asked
believers to sing not just psalms and hymns but to sing spiritual songs and to make melody in their hearts unto The Lord.
Ephesians 5:19: Speaking to
yourselves in psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, singing and making melody in your heart to the Lord. Colossians 3:16 Let the word of
Christ dwell in you richly in all wisdom; teaching and admonishing one another in psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, singing with grace
in your hearts to the Lord.
There is no limitation that such spiritual songs be ‘library’ volume accompanied by organ music only. A variety of instruments
were already used in biblical times to make music for instance the harp, timbrels, cymbals and trumpets. So just because the music is loud as modern rock
music frequently is and a variety of instruments are used in its creation does not make the music ungodly. So what criteria can we use to determine the
godliness or ungodliness of so-called ‘Christian’ music?

First of all let me say that having had some first hand experience with the so-called contemporary Christian music industry I would venture to say that out of
the 1000’s of artists and bands whose music is sold in so-called ‘Christian’ bookstores across North America there may not be one whose music could be
called Godly. Not because the music is loud or that it has a fast beat or rhythm but rather because the spirit of that music is Satan not God. Yet I refuse to
believe that there is no music out there that is stylistically similar to modern rock music and is yet Godly. I myself have a good collection of music mostly from
the 60’s and 70’s that I believe was recorded by sincere people that honor God yet sounds like rock music. I believe there have been and may still exist
somewhere musicians that have the talent to make a good tune which also is able to convey their love for Jesus Christ as David conveyed his love for God
through his psalms many of which were sung in a loud voice with loud instruments. Therefore the only criteria to judge the godliness or devilishness of
anything including music would be to test the spirit that inspires it.
The fundamental purpose of music in the bible is to make melody UNTO THE
LORD!
Godly music is a love song sung by the creation for the creator, it can be soft, it can be loud, and it can be played on one instrument or by a whole
orchestra but its message will convey feelings that the artist has for God: feelings of love, feelings of awe, feelings of wonder, feelings of joy and of
thankfulness.
Music comes from the heart and a man or woman who loves Jesus Christ will be able to convey that through his or her music.
Jesus taught that out of the abundance of the heart the mouth speaks and those in whose heart Jesus Christ lives abundantly will be able to convey as
much to their listeners. The listeners on the other hand must have the same Spirit of God dwelling in their hearts to recognize the godliness or ungodliness
of the music they are hearing.

More than the problem with music the problem lies with churches where both the musicians and their listeners have grown up. Because they have grown up
in institutions where Satan masquerades as an angel of light they have no understanding of the discernment of spirits. They sit under pastors that teach
them everything but the Word of God and teach them that to reach the world they themselves have to become worldly. Music was not intended in the bible
as a teaching tool; the gospel is the spoken word not music. Jesus and the apostles did not go about singing their message; they spoke their message to
people who had not heard that message before. They sang hymns and psalms in private as they glorified and praised God in their hearts but this music was
not sung unto people, it was sung unto God. Therefore Godly music is meant for God not for man and artists who recorded their music as a hymn to God no
matter what the genre of music this hymn might fall into: traditional, rock, jazz, classical or any other classification, the music was Godly when created and
will forever stay Godly. In my estimation the so-called contemporary Christian music industry is an industry and that’s about all - there is nothing Christian
whatsoever about it. The apostasy of the mainstream churches has progressed so greatly (as prophesied) that hardly any of them would recognize Jesus
even if he did venture into their churches which I dare say he does not. Just like the glory departed from the temple in Ezekiel’s day so has God been
missing from mainstream churches for decades if not centuries.

Can children raised in these whitewashed sepulcher churches recognize God and Jesus Christ? If they cannot even recognize Jesus, how can they love him
and sing about him? Therefore whoever they are singing about ain’t God! It’s the blind leading the blind and the deceived singing to the deceived. Howbeit
not all who are involved in the industry are deceived; no there are plenty of deceivers especially amongst the upper echelons of the industry and amongst
the artists. As a matter of fact I would say that since the last 70’s and early 80’s things have gotten progressively worse so that these days even the
semblance or appearance of Christ has all but disappeared from CCM (contemporary Christian music). It would be too much to hope that even one of the
top executives of all the major ‘Christian’ labels is actually a Christian. There are plenty in their ranks that are not just not Christian but that are obviously
enemies of the cross of Christ and many that are devil worshippers and Satanists. When occult symbols are openly displayed on CDs in ‘Christian’
bookstores and satanic lyrics are heard day and night on ‘Christian’ radio stations then I can no longer believe that it’s just accidental. Knowing a little bit of
the history of ‘Christian’ rock, I can say that there was beauty and grace in this type of music back in the early days of the genre. As with all good things it
did not take Satan long to get his hands on that which was pure and pervert it to his own evil ways. You can chart a graph and see how the music has
degenerated year by year since the 60’s so that today it is indistinguishable from secular music. As a matter of fact it is the stated goal of many a ‘Christian’
artist to get as much airplay as possible on secular stations. The problem lies not so much with the deceivers but rather with the deceived; if they do not
have the discernment to tell the difference between God and the devil, how can they tell if the music they are listening to is Godly or not?

Some of the music I have posted on the AUDIO page was created by artists that apparently turned away from God at a later date. However this in no way
signifies that the music itself has become tainted. If the Spirit of God inspired it in the first place then that music will forever be Godly no matter which way
the human authors turn. Solomon turned away from God in his latter years but the Proverbs he wrote are as much The Word of God today as they were the
day he wrote them. His apostasy had no bearing on the inspiration of those proverbs; they were originally inspired by God and will forever be inspired no
matter what Solomon did later in his life.
Titus 1:15: Unto the pure all things are pure: but unto them that are defiled and unbelieving is nothing
pure; but even their mind and conscience is defiled.
Yes the pure can certainly make beautiful music that will be pure even if it sounds like rock music
so I for one do not condemn the whole genre having heard enough music that could be classified as ‘Christian’ rock that has blessed and uplifted me. You
can make your own decision about the samples I have posted but to me its beautiful Godly music; sadly you will not find anything like this in modern
'Christian' bookstores; you can however plenty of satanic rap like P.O.D. and death metal like Vengeance Rising recorded by admitted Satanists. I
eventually hope to have a separate music site where I will upload 100's of Jesus music songs recorded mostly in the 70's by artists whose only motivation
was to express their love for their Creator through music and not for financial gain or self glory; they did not seek fame and fortune. This is why hardly
anyone has even heard of these singers and musicians yet their music is heavenly, at least in my opinion.

In conclusion I would say that though there has been Godly music recorded by artists who truly loved the Lord Jesus Christ their number is small and has
constantly diminished since the 60’s. Most of these people did not come out of churches; they were truly born again and knew the Jesus who had rescued
them is real. Therefore the music they made in his honor is true and sincere not hypocritical and unholy. Sadly the modern CCM industry just like the
modern mainstream church is a bottomless pit waiting to devour its unwitting fans who are too lazy to study the Word of God for themselves. Were they to
do so they would discover that the god they worship through modern CCM is not the Lord Jesus Christ but rather the enemy of their souls leading them to
eternal destruction? Here’s a link to the lowdown on modern CCM including exposes of many of the leading artists and groups.
